Key Changes - Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Protecting Worker Entitlements) Act 2023

Significant changes to the Fair Work Act are being rolled out over the next six months.  A summary of the three key items is in this news brief from the Australian Payroll Association.

The most immediate changes are to unpaid parental leave (UPL) – already in effect from 1 July. This will provide stronger access to unpaid parental leave and complement recent changes to the Paid Parental Leave Act 2010 (PPL Act). Get a refresher on adding or editing leave entitlements on the foundU platform.

Next up, access to variable recurring salary deductions for employees comes into effect on 30 December.  Essentially employees will now be able to just authorise deductions to their salary one time even if the amounts will vary.  Brush up on deductions here.

Finally, a ‘right to superannuation’ in the National Employment Standards (NES) will ring in the new year.  This is the green light for the enforcement of the already existing laws affecting obligated employers and employees eligible for superannuation contributions.  You already know how easy it is to pay super in foundU but here’s a reminder.
